Bio

John Kamau Kamau brings to the firm highly competent and specialized legal experience in his areas of practice. John is a holder of a Master of Laws LLM (Distinction) in Oil & Gas Law from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and a recipient of the Prestigious Tullow Oil Scholarship award, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi (2006) and diploma from the Kenya School of Law. John is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya of eleven (11) years standing. John worked for the Kenya Revenue Authority between 2007 and 2016 (9) years in various departments including Investigations and Enforcement, Large Taxpayers Office and Legal Department. He is an expert in Tax law including Tax disputes resolution, Tax Planning and general tax law. In addition, John has since January 2017, worked as a Litigation Counsel at Mbugua Ng’ang’a & Co. Advocates mainly dealing with Commercial and Tax dispute resolution at various courts and tribunals, Constitutional and Judicial Review matters before the High Court and Court of Appeal. He has been deeply involved in devolution law practice representing Murang’a County Government and Assembly.

With his background in Oil & Gas, John is experienced in Hydrocarbons; including licensing of private Multinational Oil Companies and National Oil Companies, production Sharing Agreements; Negotiation and Re-negotiations, Contracting in Oil & Gas; Joint Ventures, Joint Operating Agreements, Farm in and Farm outs, Taxation of upstream Oil & Gas, International Environmental Law, local Content and general advisory on the applicable legal regime and compliance in Oil & Gas. John is married and a father of 3.
